Be Moved Every Day: Jaguar

There’s no better way to recover from a stressful week in the lab than a photo bomb weekend. Alex and I got together Sunday to search for the railroad park, and just happened to stumble across a Jaguar show in Chandler. Needless to say, we didn’t make it to the trains.

The Secret Life of Scientists: Chris

Chris is a grad student that I work with who is finishing up his dissertation. I took some photographs of his STM (scanning tunneling microscope) setup. The microscope is hiding out in a case, what you’re looking at is a setup that Chris built in order to perform experiments in an oxygen free environment, suspended so that he can take images without worrying about interference from tiny vibrations. What’s that about a secret life? Well it seems that many of my scientist friends have some pretty exciting hobbies. Chris is a marathon runner. I’d love to do a series showing …

Phoenix Haboob

We had a crazy huge dust storm here in Phoenix Thursday night, and I found myself lured to the eerie-ness. It just seemed like the perfect opportunity to shoot a horror film or crime thriller. Okay okay, maybe I was a little inspired by the episode of Criminal Minds I was watching just as it hit…

Happy 4th of July!!

Last thursday my little brother Tony shipped out to boot camp, so this Independence Day is particularly special for me. I am so proud of our service men and women! We started the celebrations off right with our family and BBQ. Then, my other brother Alfi joined us in finishing it off with friends, ice cream, and this great view of all the fireworks in the city atop Papago mountain.

A Day at the Park

It was a sunny beautiful day Friday, so we decided to run around a bit. When we got to the park it was completely empty, we had the whole place to ourselves. So, John and Gaius got to playing and quickly wore themselves out!

Hiking Fossil Springs

The semester is finally over, so we headed toward Sedona for a breath of fresh air! This is where we are going. The trail climbs down these bluffs to a freshwater spring. This guy seemed to be following us down, a little fishy if you ask me… We’re getting closer… Ahhh…

Graduation: Alfi & Tony

On May 26th my little brothers are graduating from high school. These are the announcements that I designed for them, using some of the shots that came out of their senior portrait sessions.

A picture and a letter

Okay, so 26 Letters… This was a project for my industrial design class. We needed to find all 26 letters of the alphabet engraved, embossed or otherwise embedded into an object in such a way that the could be felt (i.e. no printed or painted text). We were also supposed to choose and follow a theme, and this is what we came up with. The general idea is that the objects photographed tell the user how to interact with them. Anything from a fire alarm telling the user how to react in an emergency, to a building sign letting a user …
